Trading Cards
There are just a few of the cards from my trading card collections. The cards shown in the 4 card groupings above are from the 1993 SkyBox The Nightmare Before Christmas trading card set. There are 90 cards in the set plus 4 spectra cards. The grouping of cards on the left shows two of the regular cards above with the same cards below as spectra cards 1 and 2. The grouping of cards on the right shows spectra cards 3 and 4 and the the checklist cards A and B. I don't recall how many packs I had to open before I got three of the spectra cards but I gave up trying to finding Oogie Boogie's spectra card. I later spotted it for sale at the Toronto Fan Expo in 1999 and was finally able to finish my set.
An interesting note is the fact that you will see the earlier works related to The Nightmare Before Christmas have the copyright of Touchstone Pictures but later Disney was used. When I worked at Walt Disney World, as a university co-op student, I attended Disney University. We were told, in our classes, that Disney used Touchstone Pictures on films there were not sure how they would be received by the public. By using Touchstone, they could distance themselves from the project in case it was not received well. The movie, of course, proved to be hugely successful and everything related to the movie had 'Disney' added on it.
The two film cel cards above are from the 2003 Upper Deck trading cards series Disney Treasures. Acording to the back of the card, this card is a "Limited Edition Reel Piece of History" with "two authentic frames of film taken from the main theatrical release of the Disney production of The Nightmare Before Christmas". The pictues when taken with the cels backlight to show the cel image. The first card has Jack Skellington with the moon behind him and the second cards has Jack and Sally. I wonder how I could get film cels from the Touchstone release?
