Edward Scissorhands
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I really love the stark contrast between Edward’s isolation in the inventor dilapidated mansion and the all too perfect Tupperware coloured suburban houses. When you watch this movie, you can really feel the sadness, isolation and longing of Edward wanting to fit in and get his hands and it is very powerful to watch. When I was at TIFF, last summer, Edward’s costume was on display. It was incredible to be able to see it up close and see all the detail with the strips of fabric and buckle that it is made of. I find it equally sad; however, to watch Vincent Price portray the dying inventor, knowing this is one of his last movie appearances. I have great memories of watching old black and white Vincent Price movies such as those based on the books by Edgar Allen Poe.
